San Francisco's Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival 2016
First held in 2008 in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco's Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival was a success from day one. Now celebrating their 8th year, this eco-friendly festival will once again draw crowds as well as top musical and artistic talent to Golden Gate Park on August 5th through the 7th.
This "otherworldly celebration of music, food, wine, beer, art and comedy" is an event like no other with its pop-up food booths, craft brews, arcade, Market Place at the Golden Gate Polo Fields and incredible line-up of entertainment.
With music for all tastes and generations, some of the top bands include Radiohead, Major Lazer, Third Eye Blind, Duran Duran, LCD Soundsystem and many more.
The comedy and improv acts are equally as impressive with Fred Armisen, John Mulany and Anthony Jeselnik headlining.
Since there are a multitude of stages, its best to determine in advance which bands or artists you most want to see and then explore side stages to discover new talent.
The green movement continues to play a key role in the festival with Eco Lands being the "hub of environmental consciousness and community engagement." Situated in the wooded section of Hellman Hollow, Eco Lands showcases local community organizations, farmers market, refillable water station and urban gardening workshops.
In keeping with the eco-friendly mindset, Outside Lands hosts a bike party each day of the festival, departing daily at noon from the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium and leaving the festival at 10:30pm each night.
A few essentials to bring to ensure you're comfortable while attending this cultural phenomena: a chair, blanket for the chilly evenings and plenty of water.
