Bike To Work Day

Thursday, May 11th is Bike To Work Day. This is the day where San Francisco residents come out in force on two wheels to make a statement to City and County leaders. It celebrates those who commute to work on a regular basis as well as encourages others to give it a try.

Studies show that people who cycle to work on a regular basis are 6 times healthier than other commuters.

Some of the benefits include:

  • Cardiovascular fitness
  • Enhances brain power (making us better and more creative at our job!)
  • Reduces stress
  • Boosts overall mood
  • Reduces insomnia
  • Saves money
  • It's fun!

If your commute is too long to simply bike to and from, try combining public transportation and cycling. Bike to a CalTrain, BART station or bus stop and complete your commute from there.

Bike To Work Day has over 26 'energizer stations' throughout the city where cycling commuters can grab free snacks, drinks and tote bags filled with awesome swag. Bike Doctors will be set up to provide complimentary basic bicycle maintenance at select stations.

There are also Commuter Convoys you can participate in, during which you ride downtown with neighbors, District Supervisor, and San Francisco Bicycle Coalition staff members. And, if you want to make a serious commitment, take the Team Bike Challenge by recruiting friends, neighbors or coworkers to commute to and from work throughout the entire month of May. A great chance to get healthy, save money and even win some great prizes!
